Garage Door Sensor

Is it open? Ever wonder if your garage door is open? This project uses a simple tilt sensor to let you know! It turns a light on or off based on the sensor’s position. It also triggers Google Home to announce things like “The garage door is open.”

• The Zigbee hub receives the sensor signal and passes it to the Smart Life (Tuya) integration paired with Google Home.
• Google Home processes the signal and triggers the light and an announcement that the door is open or closed.
• The bedroom light turns on or off depending on the door state.

• Zigbee hub compatible with Google Home (mine is an “M6 Matter & Zigbee Hub”).

• Smart plug (e.g., Kasa Smart Plug Mini by TP-Link).
• Google Home / Nest speaker or display.

🔍 How It Works

When the garage door opens, the tilt sensor notifies the Zigbee hub, which relays the state to your Smart Life ↔ Google Home setup. Google Home then announces the state and toggles a smart plug (bedroom light) so you have both audio and visual confirmation.

So when I walk into my bedroom and the light is on I know the garage door is open.

This project is a great example of how you can integrate various smart home devices to create a more automated and responsive living environment.
